Frequently Asked Questions

Below are answers to common questions about mediation to help you better understand the process and decide whether it may be a good fit for your situation.

Regan's area of expertise includes but is not limited to family law. Please reach out if you have additional questions outside of family law, if I can't help I can refer you in the right direction.

You can schedule a consultation with our attorney-mediator by calling our office or filling out the contact form on our website. We will get back to you promptly to schedule a time that works for you. Mediation is a structured, confidential process where a neutral mediator helps parties work through disputes collaboratively rather than through litigation. The goal is to reach practical, mutually acceptable agreements while reducing conflict, stress, time, and cost.
If you’re unsure whether mediation is appropriate for your situation, a consultation can help clarify your options and next steps.

Yes, mediation is voluntary. And, while mediation is not always required, it is often strongly encouraged and, in some cases, court-ordered. Even when not required, many individuals choose mediation first because it offers greater flexibility, privacy, and control over outcomes. A consultation can help determine whether mediation makes sense based on your circumstances. Mediation is not compulsory and both parties must be willing to participate in good faith. While agreement does not mean you see eye-to-eye, it does mean a shared willingness to work toward resolution. If you’re unsure how to approach the idea with the other party, scheduling a consultation can help you think through that conversation

The total length of your mediation is highly dependent on the circumstances. While it is much shorter than traditional litigation, the mediator will have a better idea of how long it will take to resolve your case after a consultation.

Absolutely! In fact, if you have children, it is highly encouraged to seek a resolution through mediation. There are circumstances where mediation would not be appropriate. For example, if there is abuse involved, mediation is not an option. However, if both parties are willing to meet in the middle and co-parent in an amicable fashion, mediation is the answer.

Hartman Consulting operates on a flat-fee, or hourly, basis. Again, this is highly dependent on the details of the case. Please schedule a consultation for a free quote.

Getting started typically begins with an initial consultation to discuss your situation, answer questions, and determine whether mediation is appropriate. This conversation helps set expectations and ensures the process is a good fit for everyone involved. You’re welcome to reach out to schedule a consultation and take the first step toward a more constructive path forward.

Still have questions?

If you still have questions or would like to discuss your specific situation, you’re welcome to get in touch or schedule a consultation. A conversation can help determine whether mediation is the right next step for you.
